  7.     The athletic antics of bonny Prince Charles seem to be
  8. catching up with him. He's been suffering acute back pain for
  9. the past five weeks, though playing polo the entire time, but
  10. last week it became so intense he was forced to cancel all his
  11. public duties for the rest of the month. The pain, caused by a
  12. degenerative disk, now has the prince so disabled he can barely
  13. get out of a chair. "If he does not rest his back now, he could
  14. well end up needing surgery," says orthopedic surgeon John Webb
  15. of Queen's Medical Center. His condition is attributed to a
  16. lifetime of sports -- skiing, windsurfing and parachuting, as
  17. well as polo. Charles will recuperate at his home at Highgrove
  18. in Gloucestershire, and has been prescribed anti-inflammatory
  19. drugs.
